Self Catering Accommodation in the Cairngorms National Park

Grant Cottage, Tomintoul

Low population and traditional hill farming contribute to the area’s tranquillity and beauty, and enables our abundant wildlife to flourish. Red and roe deer proliferate, as well as red squirrels. More rarely, those prepared to seek them out can find pinemartens and black grouse but you won’t have to travel far to see one our magnificent buzzards.

Up on the mountain tops you will find ptarmigan, dotterel, snow bunting and ring ouzel. Nearby are golden eagle, crested tit and Slavonian grebe. On the moors around Tomintoul, you can find merlin, hen harrier, peregrine falcon, and black and red grouse.

You will be able to find osprey at nearby Boat of Garten in the summer. Further afield, you’ll find reindeer at Glenmore and dolphins in the Moray Firth, if you’re lucky.
